The Cabinet

Apothecary

Skincare, SPF, and serums: the routine Wren actually built, one honest addition at a time.

A quick, honest note before you scroll further: some of the links below are affiliate links, and yes, they earn us a small commission. Of course they do, that’s rather the point of them. Costs you nothing extra either way. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. We’re also part of the Commission Factory network. None of that changes what goes on the shelf: if we wouldn’t put it in our own bathroom cabinet, garden shed, or dinner rotation, it’s not going in The Cabinet either.

Wren’s Picks

Amazon prices shift about constantly, so rather than quote numbers that go stale within the week, each pick is marked budget, mid-range, or splurge.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Ultra Invisible Fluid SPF50+

1. Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Ultra Invisible Fluid SPF50+ (50ml)

La Roche-Posay · Amazon AU Mid-range

First thing I added, before anything else. UV radiation degrades collagen and undoes everything else in a routine, so this was never going to be the step I cut corners on. Six months later it’s still the one thing I never skip.

The Jojoba Company Jojoba Boost Skin Renewal

2. Jojoba Boost Skin Renewal (30ml)

The Jojoba Company · Amazon AU Splurge

Went in the same week as the sunscreen. A softer way into retinoid use than a bare serum, carried in jojoba instead. Worked well enough that I added The Ordinary’s stronger version to the routine five months later.

The Jojoba Company Jojoba Boost Skin Barrier Support

3. Jojoba Boost Skin Barrier Support (30ml)

The Jojoba Company · Amazon AU Mid-range

Also went in that first week. Ceramides here rebuild the barrier structure underneath as much as they moisturise the surface. Sits quietly under everything else and does its job without complaint.

The Jojoba Company Calming Jojoba with Bisabolol and Chamomile

4. Calming Jojoba with Bisabolol and Chamomile (100ml)

The Jojoba Company · Amazon AU Mid-range

The fourth original addition. Bisabolol calms skin on the surface and helps repair the disruption retinoids cause underneath. For the nights the rest of the routine feels like too much.

La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C12 Serum

5. Pure Vitamin C12 Serum (30ml)

La Roche-Posay · Amazon AU Splurge

Added once the first four had settled in. Mornings are for antioxidant defence, arming skin cells with electron donors before UV exposure rather than repairing after. Took a while to earn its permanent slot.

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion

6. Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (30ml)

The Ordinary · Amazon AU Budget

Came later, once I trusted my skin to handle two retinoid sources across the week. Works the same pathway that pushes cell turnover back toward a younger rate. Repurchased in June, which says more than any ingredient list.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

7. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (30ml)

The Ordinary · Amazon AU Budget

The last addition, closing out six months of slow, deliberate build. Different pathway to the retinoids entirely: interrupts melanin transfer, boosts barrier ceramides, calms inflammation. More traffic controller than instigator.

The Jojoba Company Jojoba Boost Super Antioxidant

8. Jojoba Boost Super Antioxidant (30ml)

The Jojoba Company · Amazon AU Mid-range

Not a daily step, more a vibe-dependent one. Rosehip oil and astaxanthin work the same electron-donor mechanism as vitamin C, intercepting free radical damage before it reaches collagen. Layer it on the mornings skin wants extra defence.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Caring Wash

9. Toleriane Caring Wash

La Roche-Posay · Amazon AU Mid-range

The night cleanser. Fragrance-free and built for sensitive skin, it removes the day’s SPF and product without stripping the barrier the rest of the routine spent all day protecting.
